Public spaces are loud spaces. And modern acoustic ceiling tiles, whether made of mineral fiber or plastic foam, offer little reduction of sound while emitting high rates of greenhouse and other hazardous gases in production. |CANOPY| is a biological alternative composed of the fungal radical, MYCELIUM, whose naturally dense yet porous structure offers both high absorptive and deflective potential in acoustic material development. A waste agricultural product, modular and adaptive to existing ceiling tile systems by design, |CANOPY| is the next step in bringing biological processes into the public building and forum.
